Watercolor & Wine

Stunning landscapes meet creative relaxation

Sometimes the best exploration days are the ones where you don’t need to talk. Socialization is optional, views are incredible, and the vibes? Immaculate.

The Place(s):

My version: Indian Beach on the Oregon Coast

Can be: Anywhere with sand, water, and a view

The Plan:

Pack your bag with a watercolor set, brush(es), an old tee or rag for wiping your brush, a painting pad or notepad of your choice, a small jar of water, and, of course, your favorite bottle of Oregon Pinot Noir- because this day is all about watercolor and wine.

When the coast turns moody, I like to find a wine that matches the vibe. Right now, my go-to is this one – it’s fruit forward, bold, and perfectly compliments whatever the Oregon Coast throws your way. Don’t forget to bring a cozy sweatshirt (because Oregon isn’t all rainbows and sunshine) and a blanket to sit on, so you can fully immerse yourself in the watercolor and wine experience.

Now, here’s your itinerary for the day!

Start your morning at Osprey Cafe, a local gem with vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options. They open at 8 am, so you can choose to greet the day with the sun or take it slow and settle in for a relaxed brunch before diving into your watercolor and wine adventure.

Next, drive to Ecola State Park on the Oregon Coast, and hike 2 miles into Indian Beach. Begin at the Ecola State Park parking lot- it’s easy to find. What’s not as easy to spot, however, is the mysterious Tillamook Tilly.  Though visible from Indian Beach, you’ll need binoculars to get a clear view.

Once you’ve settled in, pour yourself a glass of Pinot and start painting! This is where watercolor and wine truly come to life. Remember, there are no rules when it comes to creativity. But if your anxiety decides to make an appearance, here’s some inspiration and tutorials to get you started.

After you’ve savored your wine and filled your watercolor pages, head back to the car (or sprinter van) and check off two more must-see spots on the coast.

First, visit Haystack Rock, a 235 foot geological wonder of Oregon’s coastline- and one you don’t need binoculars to appreciate. It’s massive, and perfect for another round of watercolor and wine.

Finally, make your way to Hug Point, another Oregon state park brimming with tide pools waiting to be explored. With its waterfalls, intricate sand formations, and decades of adventure etched into the rock, it’s the perfect place to end your watercolor and wine day.
